Favorite foods for breaking the fast

Date
Dates have been food for the inhabitants of the Middle East for thousands of years. The palm tree is thought to have originated in the Persian Gulf and has been cultivated since early Mesopotamia in Ancient Egypt since 6000 before our era.

Archaeological evidence proves its cultivation in eastern Arabia since 4000 years before our era. The fruit of this tree is called persimmon and has a cylindrical oval shape with length from 3-7 cm and 2-3 cm in diameter and have different colors depending on the variety. A ration of 100 grams of fresh dates is a good source of vitamin C and supplies the body with 230 kcal (960 kJ). When dry, vitamin C loses. Allah Almighty has mentioned the date in the Noble Qur'an in the verse :

“The pain (of birth) supported him (Maryam) to a body of persimmon. Ajo tha : “Ah how good it was for me to have died before this and to have been long forgotten!” And from below he called her (Jibril) : “Do not worry, Your Lord made a creek near you (test)”. And shake the body of the date because fresh dates will fall on you. Praise you, eat drink and calm down…” (Sure Merjem : 23-26)

Profeti Mohammed, alejhi selam, has paid special attention to dates as part of the diet of Muslims during Ramadan. Dates are highly nutritious food, especially for their natural sugar. Dates are a great food for those who fast. Even doctors who treat their fasting patients recommend breaking the fast with natural sugars found in fruits and water..

It is narrated from Salman ibn Amir ad-Dibbij that Muhammad, alejhi selam, said : “When someone makes iftar, let’s start with dates, for it is prosperity, and if you can not find it, then with water, because the water is pure.” (Bukhari, Muslim and others) Dates give the body the necessary sugar and stimulate the intestines by greatly reducing hunger and reducing food consumption. Prophets, alejhi selam, said: “The house that has dates, does not feel hunger.” [Narrated by Muslim].

The compulsory nature

All Muslim believers are commanded to fast. Whatever the case, the decision to break the fast is made by the believers themselves with their sincerity before Allah.. Usually in practice for making a decision believers are advised in advance given that they make the decision for themselves by praying to Allah to help them with His charity.

As norms derived from the institution of fasting there are two categories that are temporarily released or with material compensations from fasting.

  • Believers whose condition is expected to improve.
This category includes pregnant women and women with breastfeeding children, if possible, ie depending on the health condition, it is good to fast, but if they have health problems, until they recover, they can stop fasting so that they can make up for lost days later. during the year.
  • Believers whose condition is not expected to improve.
This category includes seniors who are fasting and who have a significant impact on their health., believers with other serious chronic diseases whose improvement is not expected for a long time. Believers in this category are released from fasting and instructed to make up for it with material means.
